Animal Sentience

I think it is evident that the sentience of animals is already fully recognised in UK law – since it would evidently be impossible to have laws about animal welfare (as we do) without recognising animals as sentient. It would be a logical nonsense to have a law protecting the welfare of any entity that was not sentient.

However, I too welcome Michael Gove’s assurance that the Government will look carefully at the whole legal framework which will apply following Brexit and that the Government will ensure that animal welfare is exactly as well protected in the UK on the day we leave the EU as it was on the day before we left the EU.

I shall certainly support any measures brought forward by the Government that are felt necessary in order to achieve this.
