Thank you for your email of this afternoon about the current Brexit situation.
Of course, like everyone else, I can see the difficulties the government is having in its efforts to arrive at an agreement with the EU which fulfils the mandate given by the referendum and at the same time offers the prospect of a secure and prosperous future for our country.
The fact that these difficulties exist is regrettable but this was inevitably going to be a difficult process. And I don’t think that we should react to the difficulty by taking steps either to replace the Prime Minister or to re-run the referendum.
On the contrary, I continue to believe that the best interests of the country will be served, at this point, by supporting the Prime Minister in her valiant efforts - which I am accordingly continuing to do.
