MINISTER for Government Policy Oliver Letwin MP hosted his first meeting as the ministerial representative for flood recovery in Devon and Dorset on Friday.
Mr Letwin held meetings across Dorset, Exeter, Devon and Dorchester.
He met local businesses, community groups and representatives of flood response groups.
Mr Letwin also liaised with representatives from emergency services, local councils and utility companies.
In his new role, he will assess how effectively parties worked together across Devon and Dorset and explore whether this winter’s severe weather has exposed new or existing weaknesses in local flood defences.
Mr Letwin said: “This winter was the wettest on record, causing terrible damage and disruption.
“I’m keen to help the hardworking communities and businesses of Devon and Dorset get back to their daily lives.
“We need to make sure that we are delivering the right support and help is reaching those in the counties who need it most.
“It is also vital that we learn the lessons from what happened and make sure any weaknesses are fixed for next winter and that is exactly what I intend to do.
