Bridport and Lyme Regis News

OUR October meeting was given by John Gulliver and concerned "More Travels in search of Steam in Europe". John has travelled extensively on the continent, observing and recording the steam locomotives that still operated before their final retirement.

Since then he has ventured forth again to record the preserved steam engines that still operate there.

He showed photos of Spain, Slovenia and Czechoslovakia in the 1960s and Austria in 2003. His delightful images of the trains and stunning scenery were much enjoyed.

In 2003, we held a one-off Model Railway Exhibition to help raise funds for re-surfacing the Village Hall Car Park.

Both visitors and exhibitors demanded that we run it annually, in perpetuity, and we are now in our 11th year.

The exhibition has grown physically and in quality over the years.

This year will be our biggest ever with even more exhibits, and we are indebted to St. Mary's School for allowing us to take up space in their fine building.

The exhibition will be opened by the Oliver Letwin MP.

There are refreshments, light lunches, free car parking, and the entrance fee remains at £3.00 for adults - children at school or younger go free. Do come and enjoy a family day out.

Our next club meeting is on Wednesday, November 20 and is a talk by our old friend, Peter Triggs, entitled "Steam, Steam, and a little Exhaust".

The meeting is in Thorncombe Village Hall and starts at 7:30 p.m. Non-members are welcome, there are refreshments and parking is free.
